Why Job Search Needs to Change

We’ve all been there, job ad after job ad after job ad; a hamster wheel of click-read-nope.

Classified ads might have migrated online, but there haven’t been any dramatic changes in how we search for jobs. The prime difference is that we now email soft copies of our applications rather than burdening the postman.

We still spend hours trawling through sites, bookmarking and sleuthing. When you’ve finally come up with the goods, it can be difficult to know if the info is correct.

Why has recruitment been left behind?

Given the complete sea-change in working norms—people now change their jobs on average every two years—it’s strange how little recruitment has adjusted. In the US, modern workers have re-prioritised from the classic ‘50s American Dream of having a house, a car and a picket fence. While the European Dream isn’t what one might call ‘a thing’, the same shift has taken place. Globalised, educated young people have grown as a single generation and are less divided by language and national boundaries. People are trading in possessions for experiences, cars for bicycles, security for mobility.

Connections for the connected

We live in a constantly connected world now, where intelligent systems are constantly trying to guess our likes, tastes and behaviours. Our entertainment is recommended to us and our social interactions are couched in how we want to view ourselves. But this disruption in almost all aspects of our lives has yet to spread to one of the core criteria of a life well lived: what we do.

Need inspiration to find your new job, sign up for JobspottingRegardless of your career-stage, the process of finding something new can be soul-destroying. That exhilarating decision to change your job, your city or your lifestyle can be dragged back down when the job hunt actually begins. The time has come for job-finding methods to catch up with the rest of the media you consume, which is all recommended to you based on your tastes. It’s about to happen for your work.

What’s changing?

Jobspotting has injected some long-overdue ease into your discovery of new and exciting pastures. With all this ultra-connectivity, it can be hard to discern the signal from the noise, which is why we saw the need for a clever filtration process. While our service is personalised, it’s also completely anonymous. You can sign in using your existing social profiles, but we’ll never broadcast anything about you.

Jobspotting will make your life better, simply by giving you more time for it. Don’t spend hours trudging through job searches. Tell us what you’re looking for, more or less, and we’ll suggest the most relevant work for you. Right now we’re launching for Germany and the UK, but will soon be expanding into other markets.

I’m not going to show you the man behind the curtain right now, but if you’re interested, you can check out how our system works by giving our site a go, or reading our Quick Start Guide. Much like Oz, we’ve got some actual science behind the scenes.

Empower yourself and enable the life you want. Spend your time how you deserve to spend it, and let us find your next perfect job.
